This is one of my favorite books - period. It covers life in England and London from 1600-1700. I believe it is the same book as LONDON RISING. May not sound so exciting but it shaped the way I think about history. Also, over five years later I remember quite a lot about this book, whereas most books from years ago I struggle to recognize the title and recall if I read it. Very memorable. For example, the Puritans make an appearance. They were lunatics (young rebels, breaking windows, dragging ministers naked into the snow, etc). And London suffered the plague, the execution of the king, and the London Fire within a few years of each other. Amazing times.
